Inspired by Black History Month and Women's History Month, the Academy of American Poets marked April as National Poetry Month in 1996. Since then, it has become an opportunity to turn the world's attention toward the art of poetry and its importance. It is a time to celebrate poetry's expressiveness, delight, and pure charm.
