Holy Ghost Catholic School (HGCS) is a small pre-k - 8 Catholic School in Southeast Albuquerque’s International District. Our staff consists of 35 teachers, support staff and administrators. Our team works to provide our students with a quality academic curriculum that meets the needs of the whole child as individual learners. We do this by providing a strong faith-filled atmosphere and continuing our 66 year tradition of fostering faith, learning, and service through academic achievement, physical development, artistic expression and the demonstration of Catholic values through service.
HGCS was the first Blue Ribbon Catholic school in New Mexico and is the first school in New Mexico as well as the first Catholic school in the nation to earn the National Certificate for STEM Excellence (NCSE) and earned Campus Certification from the National Institute for STEM Education (NISE). As part of earning the NCSE Campus Certification, a minimum of five teachers must earn the National Certificate for STEM Teaching (NCST). Ten Holy Ghost teachers earned their NCST this year, further contributing to the school’s collective STEM expertise. HGCS was recognized to have a pre-k teacher with STEM certification as well as an art teacher with STEM certification in their field.
Holy Ghost is seeking to become a model 21st century Blue Ribbon STREAM (Science, Technology, Religion, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) school. To do so, we are focusing on updating our technology infrastructure and acquiring up-to-date technology tools for our HGCS students and teachers. Currently, many classroom technology items have been recycled from Saint Pius X High School and government agencies. The middle school faculty seeks to purchase three sets of Chromebooks to access our state of the art software and programs. In addition to promote STREAM teaching and learning, HGCS needs to reconfigure its technological backbone to provide high speed campus-wide WiFi access.
